As you get your camper ready for the upcoming season, we’d like to remind you that turning on your Air Conditioner – while the unit is “plugged in” at home – is NOT recommended.

If you decide that you really want to “test it out” at home, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Turn all your appliances off before connecting your RV to your home lines.

Make certain your camper is connected to a solid 120volt/30amp line.

Use only heavy duty extension cords – we recommend 12 gauge.  (Keep in mind that in the world of extension cords the lower the number the better the cord – so a standard 18 or 16 gauge cord is neither better nor recommended)

Check your electrical line out with a voltmeter. The voltage must stay above 110 and below 123.  Anything outside this range can damage the A/C’s compressor. (Test this before turning on the A/C)

Do not plug it in to a heavy duty (aka 240) line – it will run too high and damage the A/C.

Do not run other appliances (especially the microwave) while you have the A/C plugged in to your home.

The exception to this, while somewhat rare, would be if you have installed a dedicated 30 amp line at your home for your camper.
